Pick of the Litter!

Sometimes I wonder about how I got to where I am spiritually etc, I look back and am marveled at just how much God has placed before me and the relationships that I am honored to be apart of.

But there are days like this one, when I meet my match. Admittedly I should never have even entertained the thought as there is no way we could afford it, but I took for a test ride an Aprila RSV Tuono-R 1000 (It may be an 03 model but I dare not fall in love with its 07 counter-part). This V-Twin behemoth took my breath away, with its low down toque, and beautiful song (it would make the best church choir/band, look like common hacks!), it has replaced the Honda VTR Firestorm as my favorite bike. I could feel my arms throbbing even after I got home. Ahhh what a bike, many people consider Italians to be very arrogant, but when some little Italian man is designing bikes like that; than as far as I’m concerned, they are allowed to be arrogant.

Its days like these that I wonder why it is that I steer very hard away from the image of God who is the giver of the things that I want. The whole, go and proclaim it to be yours and you will get what ever you want. Because if I believed it even just a little, I would be down there praying my butt off right now! I don’t think that many (urbs/Dad excluded) who occasionally read my blog really appreciate the enormity of this, but trust me if you were into bikes you would get it. ;)

Ahh I’m sure God has got a better road for me to be on. Today I wish that I was on the road with my Aprila, but I guess it’s just not to be.

Not my will, but yours be done.

so God doesn't give what you want? should we have what we dont want?do you get second best with everything?

does he give us desires just to shove them back in our face?

What’s your point... I'm sure that my desire for things of this world aren't what exactly what God want for me all of the time to pour my energies into, where moth and rust destroy.
Surely, it is not God's desire for us to sit in our mansions on the hill, if you feel ok about praying to God for your every desires (regardless of what it is) than go for it.
As for me, I’ll sit in dirt with those who are desperate without the bike, because my money and resources can be used far better than on something that I ‘just want’.

thats cool, good point. no i dont think he wants us to pour our energies into things that rust and moth destroy. i wasn;t nessasarily thinking of the bike. thats a side irrelevance, but the desires that we have in us that are to advance the kingdom. do we shove them off or do we ask God to show us how they can be used for his glory? i believe God places desires within us that are what we are to use to advance the kingdom of God. im not talking materialism. im talking jobs etc. someone loves designing clothes for example. they dont have to be a flippin pastor to reach the world. if anything they will probably reach their world more in fashion with non christians than the pastor ever will. God gave him a desire for clolthes so he goes into that feild and loves it and God uses it to change the fashion world. thats what im kinda getting at i guess.

i think too many christians are doing stuf that makes them down and depressed and not what they were made for. (im not saying this about you, im sure your doing what you know your called to and love). but i see so many pastors and people in the church that are down and depressed and trying to push on for God in a feild they shouldnt be in.

i believe we are to embrace the desires God has placed within us coz they are key to where he is calling us to and desires us to be in reaching the lost and advancing the kingdom.

i like your last comment "i'll sit in dirt with those who are desperate without my bike, because my money and resources can be used far better than on something that i just want.' thats good, use your money and resources for the kingdom!!

Nice mate.

Ive been browsing for Cruisers in old Motorcycle trader mags, which makes me wonder if my mid life crisis is twenty years too early.

Not sure if this relates, but on the topic of moth and rust, i recently watched the doco about the metal band metallica. Now there are some serious dreams come true. Those guys were left at the end of all their success with nothing but addictions and "issues" to sort through.

And a tangent on the second best thing. When I upgraded from a 250 to a shiny 900 with twin staintune pipes, i noticed that it ( maybe its just my perception) gave me more status. People actually look at me differently now. ( especially chicks) If, as a 33 year old man, I was riding around on a 250 with a lawn mower vtwin, what does that "say" about me. status really is very deceptive. And it is usually possesions and things that give us status. Not our character. And I think God quite often gives you what you dont want. Did Peter want to be crucified upside down. Did paul want to be beheaded. Did steven want to be stoned? Did I want to go $10, 000 into debt to have a shiny bike that would enhance my status?

Urbs I'm keen to read your review on "some kinda monster" cause I loved it! and loved the last album!
Status is a crazy thing, in my one hour of glory, I had so many people turn their heads, or say to me, nice bike! Like you, I thought, yeah I could get used to this. Interesting point though about God giving us what we don't want... I am still chewing on it so i'll leave it for now.(I spoke to Anthony V this morning, what a champion! ;)

Emma I fully agree with what you said about our desires etc and serving God and seeking to build his kingdom through those things. I don't think Pastors and churches as we know them really do anything! (gross generalisation but will leave it as is).

Hmm,

I don't think God cares much whether you have an awesome bike or not (he says, weighing in with his massive 1 cent opinion).

If what "Josh Keating" was all about was ONLY bikes and possessions, then I reckon you'd be getting a swift kick up the rear from him.

But you're a lot more than that mate. I think you should trust yourself a bit more. God does - he has trusted that you will do the job for him in Rocherlea.

And yeah, it's not your priority for where you think your cash should go, your values are "I’ll sit in dirt with those who are desperate"... and that's awesome.

Just remember that this God you are talking about is the same one that wants you to know that you are his Beloved Son, and that all work and no play was never God's idea.

When I was 13 I used to lie in bed reading my Fender guitar catalogue and picking out which electrics I really liked and what wood I wanted it made out of and how I'd like it to sound. Eventually through circumstance I ended up with exactly what I had wanted years previously. I believe that was God's way of saying "I know your heart son, and I love you."

I think having one nice thing that speaks to your heart is different to praying for everything you want yesterday, today and tomorrow, and claiming them for yourself.

Yeah josh,

Maybe God is calling you to a ducati?

Yeah maybe he is... as long as it's a V-twin then he can call me to what ever he likes! ;)
Grubb I hope that your right and God does that for me to.
But as for now I'll shut up and be happy on my bike. I guess being content isn't always easy, when the world says yeah, you go buy that new on, you deserve an upgrade! One day I might just get the chance but I will have to wait.
